We’re at something of a crossroads from an employment perspective. Do employers stick or twist in terms of whether to transition their workforce more permanently to a remote basis or to return to the tried-and-tested office format. But what about somewhere between the two? That’s where the idea of the ‘hybrid’ workplace comes into play. According to a YouGov poll from late last year, as many people want to work from home at least some of the time, after the pandemic, as do want to return to the office entirely – 39%, in fact. But what is the hybrid workplace? And why will antibacterial wet wipes and other similar cleaning products play such a pivotal role in supporting it? Here at Guardpack, a prominent UK private label antibacterial wet wipe manufacturer, we wanted to explore exactly those questions.
What Is Hybrid Working?
Hybrid working refers to the working model whereby an office space is staffed, save for a skeleton permanent staffing, by a more transient workforce; one where employees might spend as much time working from home as they do from the office, for instance. This year has taught employers what can work as well (if not better) from a remote or home environment, and what still really needs to be conducted from a physical workspace in order to get the best results, possible.
Why do products like antibacterial wet wipes have a part to play in this, then? Well, a lot of the focus recently has been on the cybersecurity aspect of hybrid working. With many more devices like laptops (most of which will be an employee’s own rather than company property) this leaves company networks much more open to attack. It’s helpful to think of hygiene in this way, too…
‘Comings And Goings’ Present A Significant Hygiene Challenge
When we’re talking about viral threat, though, we’re of course referring to the scientific and not the digital kind. With people more likely to be coming and going (and doing so more regularly) in the future, that also presents a greater opportunity for viral transmission. The more people come and go – the more of a fluid and organic set-up your workplace has – then the more surfaces will be touched and the greater the need to wipe equipment down and to do so at more regular intervals. By offering things like multipack wipes, telephone cleaning wipes and screen cleaning wipes, you’re ensuring that the implementation of a hybrid model doesn’t also contribute to enhanced transmission risk.
Recognising The Changing Office Space
We mentioned at the top the idea of how employers, having had a year of something entirely new, are better recognising now what their physical workspace is best used for. Administrative and clerical tasks, for instance, don’t realistically require that someone commute to work to undertake; they’re just as well-suited to being carried out remotely. Organic and creative processes, on the other hand, such as team brainstorms, strategy and ideation can’t be truly replicated over Zoom.
Incidentally, though, these are exactly the sort of processes whereby shared surfaces might be used – whiteboard pens, shared touchscreens and so forth. These are the instances in the office, more than any other, in which wiping down equipment with antibacterial/all-purpose wipes is essential. This is something that firms looking to utilise hybrid working are going to be all too aware of, so they’ll want to be doubling up on their hygiene products – if they’re not doing so already.
Even for employers looking to return to the office completely, this renewed emphasis on hygiene isn’t simply going to go away. It’s important that, as much for your employees’ peace of mind as anything else, you provide them with a healthy supply of antibacterial wet wipe products.
